I'm a user just like you and have had zero problems with my F170. For what it's worth it sounds like you aren't getting power to you dashcam. The battery that comes with it isn't designed to run the unit more than about 10 minutes (I believe). 

In any case, I was wondering if you got the problem resolved... just out of curiosity.

In any case just to make sure you get the info, this is what I'm reading on page 12 of my users manual:

You can also manually protect videos at any time by pressing the menu button while recording, you will notice a [artwork: picture of a key] indicating that clip is now locked and will not be overwritten; the only way to delete that file is manually.

Worked for me.

AFreeze, check page 12 of your manual. Section titled "Protecting your video recordings."  If I understand your concern that should do what you need.
